On Monday [May 5], Chappell Roan debuted at Met Gala with an eye-catching ensemble.
Throughout the journey from her N.Y.C. hotel to the Met steps’ blue carpet, her bold look was artfully revealed.
She shot to fame with her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Roan has quickly become one to watch on the red carpet.
The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer, 27, arrived at fashion’s biggest night in a hot pink ensemble that she pulled off like a performance from her journey from the The Mark Hotel all the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
She was photographed wearing an enormous patterned hot pink cape complete with a train decked out in magenta tinsel earlier in the night on May 5.
However, once inside the museum, Roan ditched the accessory (which was so large it needed to be held by an entourage) to unveil the coordinating suit hiding underneath. Like many of the stars in attendance, Roan went with a fitted two-piece look, but hers featured a blazer and bell-bottoms slit right at the center to reveal her epic bejeweled boots.
Roan’s glam was just as memorable as her outfit as it was all about big hair and makeup described as “maximalist, metallic, and made to move” in a press release.
The famous redhead wore her curls in an extra voluminous hairstyle with bangs complemented by dramatic makeup by Pat McGrath Labs.
“For Chappell, we were channeling the glamour and freedom of the disco era—think Sylvester, Superfly, superfine tailoring, and unapologetic shine,” shared makeup artist Pat McGrath.
Roan’s eyes in particular were the most mesmerizing part of the look with McGrath “layering shimmering metallics with illustrated wings, chrome lashes and rhinestone accents” using theHoliday Mega: Luminous Legends and Mothership XII: Petalmorphosis palettes. False lashes were applied to Roan’s top and bottom lash lines to create a “modern disco glam rock vibe.”
Roan has already made some of her most memorable fashion moments this year.
Back in January, she attended the Grammys with a piece of fashion history on her back. During her first appearance at the awards show — where she walked away with a win for Best New Artist — Roan made a statement in a 2003 Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer couture collection dress complete with the design’s original colorful feather-like hat.
