Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Ayra Starr continues to prove that her reign in the music industry is far from over. In a historic turn of events, she is set to join the prestigious Billion Club of Spotify.
This comes after her sophomore album ‘The Year I Turned I Turned 21’ surpassed 800 million streams on the streaming platform.
Ayra reaches a historic milestone as she is the first ever Nigerian female artist to have her album surpass 800 million streams on the DSP.
Extending her record, the LP is the 7th Most Streamed Nigerian project ever on the platform, surpassing Fireboy DML’s 2022 ‘Playboy’ album.
The Mavin Records act’s achievement on Spotify is a testament to her fast-rising popularity and audience appeal on the platform and in the music industry.
Released via Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, ‘TYIT21′ arrived on the 31st of May this year, serving as a follow-up to her debut LP ’19 And Dangerous’. It features guest appearances from Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake, North American act Anitta, American R&B singer Coco Jones, Giveon, Seyi Vibez, etc.
‘Rhythms And Blues’ and ‘Commas’ were released on in September 2023 and February 2024 respectively as the album’s lead singles.
Following a successful release, the singer made her debut U.S TV appearance on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon, treating audience with a medley performance of ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ featuring Giveon and ‘Woman Commando’ featuring Anitta and Coco jones.
At this year’s MOBO Awards scheduled to take place in New Castle, Ayra Star is nominated for ‘Best International Act’ alongside Ghana’s King Promise, Uncle Waffles, Oduomodou Blvk, Ruger & BNXN, Tems, Rema, etc.
