In his most recent song video, Afrobeats musician Davido gave a sincere respect to the late music icon Sound Sultan.
The premiere of Davido’s new music video for the song “10 Kilo,” a colourful and joyous ode to womanhood and body confidence, has the Nigerian Afrobeats singer making headlines.
Part of his critically acclaimed 5IVE album, the video was released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, and has received appreciation for its poignant tribute to the late music legend Sound Sultan.
Davido’s distinctive charisma is combined with a happy, vibrant aesthetic in the music video, which was directed by the renowned Director Pink. The song’s message of body positivity is reinforced by the diverse cast of ladies who celebrate different body types and cultures. Notably, the video pays homage to Sound Sultan, an artist Davido has long respected, in a subtle yet impactful way.
Born Olanrewaju Fasasi, Sound Sultan was a well-liked personality in the Nigerian music scene, renowned for his socially conscious lyrics and ability to blend different genres, such as R&B, hip-hop, and Afrobeats. He was a multi-talented performer well known for classic songs like Mathematics and Jagbajantis. During his career, he received multiple honours, including the Headies’ Musician of the Year award. His unexpected death in July 2021 from angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma sent shockwaves through the Nigerian creative community, leaving a legacy of invention and advocacy.
This is not the first time Davido has honoured other artists with his platform. He has shown his profound love for the history and figures of Nigerian music by paying tribute to other deceased idols in the past, such as the late rapper DaGrin with a feature of his song Skelewu.
The release of the video follows another noteworthy occasion in the four-time Grammy nominee’s life: his lavish white wedding to his long-time partner, Chioma, in Miami. This pleasant new chapter in the star’s life appears to be reflected in the 10 Kilo video’s joyful and celebratory tone.
