Ghanaian singer and songwriter Gyakie has released her first single of the year titled ‘Sankofa.’
Co-written with Eyram Gbewonyo (Afrolektra), the track drawing inspiration from the Ghanaian adinkra symbol Sankofa, meaning “to go back and retrieve what is lost,” captures themes of reconnection, reflection, and emotional honesty.

Stripped-down and intimate, “Sankofa” serves as the lead single of Gyakie’s forthcoming debut album ‘After Midnight’. According to the singer, the title of the album was Inspired by the quiet, emotional hours past midnight, the album explores Gyakie’s personal journey through solitude, grief, and healing.
Deeply influenced by her upbringing, including her mother’s midnight prayers, “After Midnight” is a vulnerable, late-night soundtrack of self-discovery. Gyakie invites listeners into a raw, reflective space—best experienced when the world is still and the heart is open.
The new track resonates with listeners, setting the tone for the upcoming full project. Following the release of ‘Sankofa’, fans are anticipating further updates on the LP.
