Ahead of Vybz Kartel’s concert in Trinidad and Tobago, the country’s Defence Minister Wyne Sturge has issued an immigration order limiting the Jamaican superstar’s movement during his visit.
Vybz Kartel is scheduled to arrive in the country on May 26 2025 ahead of his concert slated for May 31.
However, Sturge imposed the restrictions ahead of his arrival on May 26. The restrictions ban the Jamaican star him from participating in several engagements, including media interviews, school visits, and community events.
These measures stem from concerns about Kartelās past legal issues, notably his 2011 murder conviction, which was overturned in 2024 due to juror misconduct.
Sturge emphasized the importance of safeguarding vulnerable youth from potential negative influences.
Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel was released from prison on the 31st of July 2024 after serving 13 years behind bars for murder.
Per FOX 5, the Jamaica Court of Appeal voted unanimously not to have a retrial in the 2011 murder of Clive āLizardā Williams, which led to the dancehall starās release along with his three co-defendants, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John.
Even though Williamsā body was never discovered, Vybz was convicted in the murder in 2014. Kartel and his co-defendants faced accusations of killing Williams over two unlicensed firearms that werenāt returned to them.
