In an industry where many artists conform to trends, Molly J stands out as a dynamic force, blending genres and defying expectations. Growing up in a musical family, where every member could sing or dance, Molly J was the one who decided to turn those skills into a career. From the very beginning, it was clear she was destined for more than just casual performances.

Describing herself as a musical chameleon, Molly J’s sound isn’t confined to one space, it flows effortlessly from classical to jazz, gospel to rock, R&B, and beyond.
Her latest project, MDMA, is a narrative of emotional resilience. The title, inspired by a comment likening her music to an addictive yet healthy substance, sets the tone for a collection that navigates heartbreak, depression, and the rediscovery of self-love.
Through the lows of life’s struggles, the message is clear: love, especially love for yourself, is what heals the wounds and brings joy back into your life. Molly J wanted to create something that would allow listeners to escape when life felt heavy.
Though MDMA feels rooted in R&B, Molly doesn’t limit herself to one genre. She’s always exploring new sounds, pulling influences from every corner of the music world. Her singing, deeply influenced by gospel and R&B, is the backbone of her sound, but she’s not afraid to push the boundaries. She knows music is limitless, and she’s just getting started.
The launch of her Savage Tour marked a significant milestone. Initially hesitant, Molly J was encouraged by her manager, Savage PNP, to take the leap. The overwhelming response, with the first show selling out, affirmed her growing connection with audiences and her place in the music scene. The second date of the tour takes place on the 16th May at Manchester’s Stage and Radio with tickets available on savagepnp.com.
Beyond her music, Molly J’s fashion choices reflect her commitment to authenticity and also adds another layer to her artistry. She selects outfits that celebrate her physique and mood, ranging from bold bodysuits to elegant dresses, always prioritizing comfort and self-expression.
Molly J’s journey is also marked by personal growth. She shed the need to please others, focusing instead on her own artistic vision. This shift allowed her to create work that is both genuine and impactful.
Offstage, she finds joy in writing and staying active, embodying a balance of creativity and wellness. Her quiet demeanor contrasts with her vibrant public persona, revealing a multifaceted artist who is as introspective as she is expressive.
Describing herself as “Electrifying, Hard-Working, Blessed,” Molly J continues to captivate audiences with her versatility and authenticity. Her story is one of embracing change, challenging norms, and inspiring others to find their own voice.
RV Unmute caught up with Molly J for an unfiltered conversation about her rise to stardom, her unique sense of style, and the powerful message behind her latest EP, MDMA.
RV: The first thing that caught our eyes on your IG profile is “Musical Chameleon”, Who is Molly J, how did you get into music and why do you call yourself a musical chameleon?
MJ: Molly J is an individual born within a musical family. There is not one member that does not know how to sing or dance, I am just the only one who decided to make it a career.
I call myself a Musical Chameleon because I have been privileged to study so many genres of music. From Classical, to Jazz, to Gospel, R&B and Rock… I believe I can do it all and adapt myself to any music.
RV: “Molly J live”, tell us about it and the Savage tour.
MJ: Molly J Live is a tour that has been curated by myself and my manager Savage PNP for the release of my most recent EP entitled MDMA, available now on every streaming platform.
To be honest, I was very hesitant about it because I didn’t believe that I had an audience yet. However my manager convinced me otherwise which led to my first date last week and the show was sold out on the day! I am so grateful for the support I received so far so I will keep on building my fanbase. The second date of the tour is the 16th May and it will be in Manchester’s Stage and Radio. The tickets are available on savagepnp.com.
RV: We can’t help but notice your unique fashion style, run us through the creative process in choosing or styling your outfits.
MJ: Thank you so much! I pretty much go with the flow and I look for clothes that will embrace my muscular body. Sometimes I will go for a bodysuit combined with boots, the next day I will wear a dress… It depends on the mood really! But I will always wear something comfortable and most importantly something that represents who I am.
RV: MDMA feels like a touch of lover girl mixed with heart break. What exactly was the plan for this EP, why the name MDMA?
MJ: There’s a funny story behind the name. G Money, a business man I used to work with at the time, loved how catchy my songs were. He told me that my songs are like a healthy drug because you can’t stop listening to them, and that’s how he came up with the name MDMA. So we started to work around the name to create a body of work that people can escape to when the world crashes down.
The plan of this EP is to take the listener on a journey of heartbreak, depression, and self-destruction up to the realization that love is an underestimated weapon to bring happiness back into our lives. Most importantly, the love of self has the ability to heal your traumas and to have a more positive perspective of life.
RV: A first listen to the MDMA album gives off RnB vibes. Is RnB your official genre or was it just for this album?
MJ: I do not have an official genre as my music influences come from various places, however because my singing is heavily rooted in Gospel and R&B, you will hear the genre very often through my way of singing and layering my vocals.
RV: What version of yourself did you have to sacrifice to get here?
MJ: I had to sacrifice the people-pleasing version of myself. Throughout my experience in the music industry, I got told so many times that I should not sing a certain way if I wanna be marketable, that my looks might make it hard for me to succeed… So I got rid of the noises around me and asked the question “What does Molly J want?” and that’s how the journey started. I am still a working progress by the way.
RV: You can only keep one item forever in your bag: your eyeliner, your lipgloss, or your perfume?
MJ: The item I would like to keep forever is not mentioned in the choices and that’s a pen. Because I love to write! Haha.
RV: What’s one thing people find out about you that leaves them shocked?
MJ: I am a lot quieter than I appear on social media.
RV: If Music was no longer an option, what would Molly J be doing?
MJ: She would be working out and writing poetry. I’m trying to be a hot auntie forever! haha.
RV: If you were to introduce yourself for the first time what 3 powerful words would you use to introduce yourself?
MJ: Electrifying, Hard-Working, Blessed.
