Idris Elba is on a mission to strengthen Africa’s film industry. The British actor, whose parents are from Ghana and Sierra Leone, has announced plans to invest in film studios across the continent, with projects already underway in Accra, Ghana and Zanzibar, Tanzania.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Elba encouraged African leaders to recognize the power of cinema and invest in its future. He believes African filmmakers should have the chance to tell their own stories and sees immense potential in the continent’s growing industry.
Elba, 52, also shared his plans to relocate to Africa within the next decade, further showing his commitment to supporting African cinema from the ground up.
Through his efforts, Elba hopes to bring more attention and resources to African films, empowering local creators and making the continent a key player in global storytelling.
