American R&B superstar Chris Brown has been arrested for physically assaulting a music producer.
According to The Sun, Brown was arrested on Thursday at a five-star hotel in Manchester, England, for allegedly attacking a music producer with a bottle at a nightclub. He was picked up at 2 a.m. outside the Lowry Hotel, for an incident that happened in February 2023 at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London.
Following his arrest, Brown, 36, was detained at the five-star Lowry Hotel on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm according to the Metropolitan Police. “He has been taken into custody, where he remains,” the police force said.
“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on Feb. 19, 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
Charges Against Chris Brown
As alleged by the complainant named Mr Diaw, the R&B star launched an unprovoked attack on him at approximately 3 a.m. while the singer and his entourage were at the upscale Tape nightclub.
Mr. Diaw further alleged that Brown struck him over the head with a bottle before proceeding to punch and kick him while he was on the ground.
“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well,” the music producer told revealed in an interview.
Mr. Diaw was taken to the hospital and required crutches to walk upon his release following the alleged assault. The incident reportedly took place while Brown was in the UK as part of his global tour.
Brown is scheduled to perform ten more shows across Britain next month, but the ongoing police investigation could disrupt the remainder of his tour.
In response to the alleged incident, Mr. Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking $16 million (£12 million) in damages for the injuries and financial losses he claims to have suffered.
The two-time Grammy Award winner had planned to continue his “Breezy Bowl XX Tour”—a celebration of his 20-year career—with major R&B artists Summer Walker opening the North American leg and Bryson Tiller joining him in Europe and the UK.
