Among the many notable cameos in Happy Gilmore 2, Eminem is one of the most notable. When Adam Sandler spoke on The Dan Patrick Show earlier in July, he talked about how he managed to get Slim Shady to work on the highly anticipated Netflix follow-up.
Sandler acknowledged that he was hesitant to approach Em for the movie since he detests pestering his buddies for cameos. “I adore Eminem.” In the interview, he stated, “Eminem and I are friends, but I don’t want to bother the man.” “And everyone was saying, ‘Man, this part would be hilarious with Eminem.'” “I don’t want to ruin this guy’s time,” I thought. He is lingering. He’s in Detroit. Making records is his life’s work.
In the end, Sandler claimed that other people on the set persuaded him to call the rapper. ‘Dude, I know it’s a pain in the ass, but it’s quite funny,’ I’ll tell Marshall over the phone. Would you mind spending a day with us? Eminem reportedly replied, “Yeah, send me the stuff,” in response.
The late comic Joe Flaherty played Donald, who frequently stops Happy’s backswing and calls him a “jacka—” as fans of the original 1996 comedy will recall. Eminem portrays Donald’s son in the new movie, who comes back to taunt the golfer in his father’s honour.
Additionally, Sandler recalls meeting Eminem on Saturday Night Live’s set in 1999, when he was no longer a cast member. Em called Sandler Bobby Boucher, his Waterboy persona.
“I remember the first time I met him. I was at SNL. I wasn’t on the show anymore,” he said. “And I was at a table with all my guys and he was the musical guest with [Dr. Dre] and we were at the afterparty, and then Marshall walked by our table and he looked at me and I looked at him like, ‘Oh yeah, that kid’s pretty damn cool.’ And then he goes ‘Bobby Boucher! I go, ‘Oh yes, that’s what’s up, Marshall.’ And then we became friendly after that.”
Eminem also costarred with Sandler in 2009’s Funny People with Sandman, so the Netflix release of Happy Gilmore 2 is not the first time the two have done so.
