Olivier Rousteing’s 14-year reign as creative director at Balmain has come to an end, marking one of the longest and most significant periods in contemporary fashion.
“I am deeply proud of all that I’ve accomplished, and profoundly grateful to my exceptional team at Balmain, my chosen family, in a place that has been my home for the past 14 years,” Rousteing shared within a statement. “As I look ahead to the future and the next chapter of my creative journey, I will always hold this treasured time close to my heart.”
Rousteing was appointed in 2011 at the age of 25, making him the first Black creative director of a French heritage brand and the youngest non-founding designer to head a major Parisian business since Yves Saint Laurent at Dior. An era comes to an end with Rousteing’s departure from Balmain, but one question remains: what will Olivier Rousteing’s next act entail?
