Award-winning Nigerian musician Davido has expressed his desire to work in the film industry, saying he is excited about acting and creating real African narratives.
During a panel discussion at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, the Afrobeats artist revealed his plans. Speaking during the “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film” session, Davido expressed his desire to pursue artistic endeavours outside of music.
He claims that he has always wanted to pursue acting and that he wants to play a straightforward yet memorable character.
“My brother said he wanted to give me a role, and I told him I wanted to play a taxi driver or something unexpected,” he said with a laugh.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, continued by saying that he is interested in films because he wants to spread African stories throughout the world. He mentioned 50 Cent as one of his main influences and said that he finds inspiration in global celebrities who have successfully blended acting and music.
“I definitely want to get involved in movies,” he said. “It’s another way to tell our stories and show the world the richness of African culture.”
Davido disclosed that, in addition to acting, he intends to pursue a career in filmmaking, concentrating on narratives that represent African identity and culture. He expressed his love for narrative-driven films and television shows like Uncorked, which emphasise cultural and personal development themes.
The Unavailable crooner stressed that African music and film have developed very potent instruments for influencing attitudes around the world and honouring the inventiveness of the continent.
Davido stated that he aims to contribute to Africa’s growing influence on the international entertainment scene while bridging the gap between the music and film sectors through his growing interest in film.
