Afrobeat and Afropop star King Promise has been crowned winner in the TGMA ‘Album/EP Of The Year’ category. He bagged the award with his ‘True to Self Album’.
Promise beat Kweku Smoke [Kweku Smoke’, Stonebwoy [Up and Running’, King Paluta [Give Time Some Time’, Team Eternity [Testimony] and Kofi Kinaata [Kofi ooo Kofi’ to win the award.
He had earlier won ‘Best Afro Pop Song’ for ‘Paris’ and ‘Best Afrobeats/ Afro Pop Artist’ before coming out victorious in the ‘Best Album/EP’ category.
Released in June 2024, ‘True To Self’ is the Legacy Line Entertainment act’s third full album- a follow-up to his ‘5 Star’ sophomore project. It features Gabzy, OliveTheBoy, Sarkodie, Shallipopi, etc.
”This time I felt like, ‘Be true to self,” he tells Apple Music. “I found the right balance between what my sound truly is, who I really am and what I really want to churn out through my music. The title speaks for what I actually want to give off with this album.”
King Promise isn’t afraid to get personal. He explains, “I’m the most vulnerable I’ve ever been with my music, the most true I’ve been, and everything has clues to it where it’s not just fiction.” Drawing inspiration from his real-life experiences, particularly his romantic relationships, “True To Self” offers a glimpse into King Promise’s inner world.
