While recording his eleventh studio album ‘Free’, Kid Cudi was inspired by the iconic film ‘Truman Show’ by Jim Carrey.
The rapper-actor shared the album cover, which features him leaping into the skies, on Instagram on Wednesday, June 9. Truman Burbank (Carrey), the protagonist of the 1998 surrealist comedy, escapes his life on the made-up island of Seahaven, which is actually a set, and climbs into the clouds from a staircase at the end of the film.
In his Instagram caption, Kid Cudi thanked photographer Norman Jean Roy and stated that he wanted the picture to be “something that really expressed freedom.”
“So the concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense,” he continued. “Inspired by The Truman Show. I cant WAIT for u guys to hear this album and really see the album art brought to life. You’re in for a beautiful ride. Promise ”
With the June Tribeca Film Festival premiere of his short film Neverland and the August release of his memoir, 2025 is looking to be a significant year for Cudi. On August 22, free drops will be made.
Cudi’s Man in the Moon series, which he based on the actor’s portrayal of late performer Andy Kaufman in the 1999 biopic of the same name, has been influenced by Carrey.
